G2 member Nemanja "nexa" Isakovic shared a few words about his team's performance in the playoffs of the IEM Dallas 2024 championship in the USA. In an interview with the HLTV portal, the esports athlete admitted that he and his teammates never expected to reach the tournament final.
"We didn't expect to make it to the final, but with the MR12 system, anything can happen, especially when you're playing with a substitute. I think it was just the participation of all the players, especially NiKo and m0NESY, who showed some of their best games in a while, that allowed us to reach this final.
At first, we just hoped to advance, make it to the playoffs, and feel the energy of the audience, especially Jake in front of the American crowd. But we took each match separately, and miracles kept happening. It's like there's some kind of aura around us pushing us forward. It seems like everything is working in our favor."
Isakovic also explained the contribution to the team's success made by Jake "Stewie2K" Yip, who is standing in for G2 at IEM Dallas 2024. Nexa believes that the American can easily return to the Counter-Strike 2 pro scene.
"He's very communicative. He brings a lot to the game during matches, suggesting ideas or noting situations when we're under too much pressure or our communications become chaotic. He has a lot of experience in this aspect of the game, so he's good at calming us down. And he's fearless: if we're going somewhere, he'll rush ahead with a knife, without fear, and get the job done. <...>
I have no doubt he'll find his place in any team he decides to join if he makes that decision. I think he can contribute as an assistant leader or even as a captain. He has really good game intelligence, and he's very open and communicative, so I think those are good qualities to be an in-game leader."
