The government of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is planning to host another Counter-Strike Major by 2027. This was revealed by the city's Head of Gaming and Esports, Chand Teixeira, in a statement to Dust2 Brasil.
"We are in discussions with all tournament organisers, and the goal—indeed, the dream of Rio de Janeiro—is to host a Counter-Strike Major within the next three years," he said.
It is worth noting that Rio de Janeiro previously hosted a Counter-Strike Major in 2022, organised by ESL. The winners of the IEM Rio Major 2022 were the Outsiders.
Another major CS2 tournament, IEM Rio 2024, concluded in Rio de Janeiro. The competition ran from 7 to 13 October, featuring 16 teams, with a total prize pool of $250,000. In the final, NAVI defeated MOUZ 3-1.
