Stewie2K is being considered as one of the potential stand-in options for the upcoming American event.
G2 will be missing their captain and in-game leader, Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, at IEM Dallas, as confirmed by the team's General Manager Petar "peca" Marković to Dust2.us. According to sources cited by the American publication, Nielsen's absence is due to a personal scheduling conflict.
With the tournament scheduled to run from May 27 to June 2 and a prize pool of $250,000 on offer, the organization is actively exploring options for a stand-in.
Dust2.us reports that Jake "Stewie2K" Yip is among the candidates being considered. If selected, this would mark Stewie2K's first LAN appearance since his time with Evil Geniuses during the Americas RMR for PGL Major Antwerp. The ELEAGUE Major Boston champion hinted at an appearance at the Dallas event in a recent post on X.
Stewie2K recently returned to professional competition on a trial basis as a stand-in for Legacy after the departure of Marcelo "coldzera" David. The possibility of extending his stint depends on how well the roles and transition to English communication work out.
However, Stewie2K is set to be replaced by Guilherme "saadzin" Pacheco once he obtains a US visa to join the team in Texas and his transfer is finalized from W7M.
The news of HooXi's absence in Dallas coincides with G2's ongoing campaign in ESL Pro League Season 19. Despite a challenging start, the team managed to advance to the playoffs through Group B and secured a victory over BIG in their opening match of the bracket stage.
