G2 Esports considered the option of transitioning Nikola "NiKo" Kovac to the captain's role in their CS2 lineup and signing a new player for the support position. This information was shared by HLTV.org's Chief Editor Milan "Striker" Svejda during the HLTV Confirmed podcast.
"I've heard that G2 Esports were looking into signing a support player. I won't say who exactly, as I'm not entirely sure if it's true. But according to rumours, they were interested in several strong players for this position. [SPUNJ: 'Like Perfecto?'] Yes, players like him. They considered for a while that NiKo would lead the team's actions in-game.
It's hard to say why they decided against this option. Perhaps it's related to the transfer cost. Because if they wanted to sign Perfecto, rumours suggest they would have had to pay $500,000. So, if you want to sign a really strong player, you'd probably have to overpay. I don't think G2 is the organisation that would pay such a sum."
Roster changes for G2 Esports in CS2 began in mid-June. Initially, the club benched Nemanja "nexa" Isakovic, replacing him with Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa. Later, the main roster saw the departure of captain Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, who was replaced by Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski.
