The American esports organisation FlyQuest has issued an official statement urging the developers of Counter-Strike 2 to reconsider the rules for participating in RMR tournaments and closed qualifiers.
FlyQuest's main CS2 roster is set to compete in the RMR tournament in Asia, while the club's women's team was supposed to receive an invitation to the closed qualifier for the RMR in North America. However, according to HLTV, Valve has stated that organisations cannot field two rosters in the competitions, even if they are participating in different regions.
"We urge Valve to reconsider this short-sighted rule change and to start collaborating with the affected organisations to find an alternative solution, as this decision negatively impacts all Impact teams worldwide. To create a fair competitive environment, this issue must be addressed for diversity in esports.
At FlyQuest, we understand the necessity of strict rules to ensure the integrity of competitions. However, by not allowing our RED programme to participate in a completely different regional qualifier without prior notice, Valve is only hindering the development of women's esports without making a significant contribution to improving the fairness of the qualification process."
It is worth noting that the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 will take place from 30 November to 15 December in Shanghai, China. The total prize pool for the championship will be $1.25 million, which will be shared among twenty-four teams.
