In an interview with Dust2.us, Complexity member Ricky "floppy" Kemery shared his emotions following his team's recent victory at the ESL Challenger Jönköping 2024 LAN tournament, held from June 14 to 16 in Jönköping, Sweden.
"I feel fantastic. This is the first proper LAN event I've won. It's an amazing feeling. The time and effort invested, and the hard work have paid off. <…>
It felt like I was banging my head against a wall at some tournaments, always finishing in third or fourth place, so this is a great feeling."
The American esports player also reflected on why he and his teammates performed well immediately after the release of Counter-Strike 2 but then faced a decline in form.
"I think the main reason is that since the game was still new, everyone was just learning, and we were lucky to have a strong start. At that point, everyone is watching you and how you play, so inevitably, you start getting countered hard. I need to adapt to what's happening in front of me, so unfortunately, I had a really bad season individually, but I'm trying my best to play better so we can win more tournaments."
For their victory at the ESL Challenger Jönköping 2024, Complexity received 50,000 USD and a spot in the ESL Pro League Season 20, which will take place in September this year. In the final, the North American team swept the Falcons.
