Christopher "dexter" Nong, the captain of FlyQuest, commented on his team’s disappointing performance at IEM Cologne 2024, where FlyQuest lost two consecutive matches and was eliminated from the tournament, finishing in last place. In his remarks to HLTV, the Australian player admitted that he is unsure about what exactly is causing their issues.
"Maybe our expectations were too high or something like that, or perhaps we just shut down a bit. I’m not entirely sure. We’ll need to analyse this, maybe start working differently. Three tournaments in a row—it’s clear that something isn’t working. So, we’ll have to reconsider some things.
I hope I can get the guys to be a bit more energetic, to start pushing forward, taking more risks, and making more mistakes. Because that’s what we’re lacking right now.
At this point, we just need to get back on track. After Chengdu, we were on the rise, before EPL and so on. Even practice and training were yielding good results. But yeah, the last three tournaments have not gone well for us. We need to find what makes us comfortable so we can start playing better. Everything is changing too much."
FlyQuest also finished last in the two previous competitions—Esports World Cup 2024 and IEM Dallas 2024. Before that, the team made it to the top 12 at ESL Pro League Season 19 and placed 7th-8th at IEM Chengdu 2024. Online, the team won the ESL Challenger League Season 47 Oceania.
