Zonic: "We are getting better and better, but it's happening too slowly"

Danny "zonic" Sørensen, coach of the Falcons Counter-Strike 2 team, commented on his team’s exit from the IEM Cologne 2024 Championship in Germany. In an interview with Dust2.dk, the Danish esports veteran hinted at potential changes within the squad.

"We are improving, but it's happening too slowly. With the ambitions that Falcons have and with what I’ve been entrusted to lead, we’re not managing our games and minimising our mistakes as we should.

Of course, mistakes happen; that’s always the case. But sometimes we make mistakes that are too severe, and there’s simply no excuse for that, especially given how long we’ve been together.

We always look at all aspects to see where we can strengthen, but there are also things indicating that we can’t continue underperforming without making changes.

When you’re an international team, you have a larger pool of players to choose from, and as I’ve mentioned, Falcons has high ambitions that we’re not meeting. There is an understanding that building a team takes time, but given everything, I expected us to be in a different position than we are now."

The Falcons dropped to the lower bracket of Group B after losing to MOUZ. In the first round of the lower bracket, Sørensen’s team defeated Virtus.pro, but then lost to FaZe. The team finished the tournament in 9th-12th place, earning $16,000 in prize money.
