Zews on cadiaN in Liquid

Former Team Liquid CS2 coach Wilton "zews" Prado discussed the difficulties faced by the previous roster. In an interview with HLTV.org, he stated that the team was not ready to fully operate under the leadership of captain Casper "cadiaN" Møller.

"At the very beginning, I tried to get the players to accept cadiaN as their captain, to listen to his calls and follow his views on the game, allowing him to be the leader. But as problems and disagreements arose, changes started happening. We tried using different coordination styles because the team struggled with how they perceived their leader.

Eventually, cadiaN gradually lost his status in the team—partly due to his own decisions and partly due to the opinions of some players. This led to a significant issue: the need to change the team's coordination system. CadiaN needed to remain captain and start incorporating others' ideas. In my opinion, this led to even more disagreements because our views on the game and role distribution differed greatly."

According to zews, despite cadiaN's leadership qualities, he was not the right captain for a roster with experienced players.

"I think cadiaN's system helped the team in some ways. The problem was that his teammates blindly followed his instructions—they lacked experience or skills in the beginning. In Liquid, however, we had players who had already won tournaments, leading to perception issues but also allowing the team to leverage that experience. We had players capable of making their own decisions, but we continued to play by blindly trusting the captain. Later, we reviewed recordings and found that the decisions were wrong and didn't suit the team.

Many players were extremely dissatisfied, and cadiaN struggled to adapt to the new style. It wasn't about one player, but rather an incompatible system that we couldn't make work.

In short, [cadiaN was not the right captain for that team]. It wasn't about his competence or anything like that: he is a true captain and leader above all, which is very important. He has all the necessary qualities and demands trust from players, which is why he simply didn't fit that roster."

CadiaN joined Team Liquid in December 2023. Under his leadership, the team failed to qualify for PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 but competed in several other major tournaments, including a top 5-6 finish at IEM Chengdu 2024 and a finals’ appearance at the CCT Global Finals. In June, he was benched, followed by the departure of Felipe "skullz" Medeiros and coach Wilton "zews" Prado.
