Well-known CS2 analyst account has been hacked

Renowned CS2 analyst and commentator Mohan “launders” Govindasamy recently disclosed on Twitter that his Steam profile was compromised, leading to the theft of his entire inventory.

The breach occurred after scammers tricked him into scanning a fraudulent QR code on a counterfeit tournament website. Launders explained that the scam started when his friends list was hacked and someone asked him to “reserve a spot for the team.”

Numerous other CS players have also reported cases of identity theft and fraud on Steam. Given the rise in such incidents, the community is advised to exercise extreme caution when opening unfamiliar links or scanning QR codes. Fraudsters are increasingly impersonating trusted individuals from the victim's friends list.

Launders’ experience mirrors that of many prominent figures in the CS community. Users should remain vigilant and safeguard their accounts, particularly with Steam Guard and two-factor authentication (2FA).

One of the most perplexing aspects of the hack was how the perpetrator managed to bypass Steam Guard so swiftly. Launders questioned how someone could disable his Steam Guard authentication and gain immediate access to his account for trades.

“How could someone disable my Steam Guard and immediately start swapping?” he asked.

This has raised concerns about the effectiveness of Steam's security measures, such as 2FA and family view mode, especially when even high-profile personalities fall victim to such scams.

Approximately $100,000 worth of items was stolen from his account, including five knives, two pairs of gloves, and an AK-47.

Despite the theft, the accounts that received the stolen Launders skins have already been trade-banned. However, this provides little consolation to those affected by such hacks, as their valuable items remain unrecovered.
