Valve updated the rules for CS2 tournaments amid the scandal with joel
The developers of Counter-Strike 2 have made adjustments to the new tournament regulations, which will come into effect next year. A new clause has been added regarding the disqualification of teams from tournaments.
According to the new clause, tournament operators are authorised to set rules allowing them to disqualify players who are caught or suspected (i.e., posing risks to organisers) of various violations, such as cheating, match-fixing, etc. In such cases, the tournament operators will be required to explain the reasons for their decision.
Disqualification on these grounds may result in the removal of the team from the official Valve ranking and, consequently, the loss of invitations to other licensed events.
To recap, 19-year-old Swedish esports player Joel was banned by the Akros anti-cheat during a match at the online tournament CCT Season 2 Europe Series 7. The organisers disqualified the team from the championship. Shortly after, BC.Game's roster was suspended from participating in two additional competitions, and the club moved the player to the reserve.
