Developers at Valve have altered the rules for organising Counter-Strike 2 tournaments, with changes set to take effect in 2025. The announcement was made on the official website of the shooter in the early hours of 17 July.
These rules will apply to all tournaments concluding after 31 December 2024. The developers have divided championships into those that affect the Valve Regional Standings and those that do not. The results of the latter type of tournaments will not be considered, and they can invite any teams, but the prize pool must be at most $100,000. However, if organisers obtain a licence from Valve to hold a ranked tournament, tier-1 events can invite teams from the top of the rankings, while tier-2 events can invite teams from the ninth place onwards.
The developers acknowledged that the new requirements for tournament operators might pose challenges initially. However, they hope these changes will help make competitions fairer, ensuring teams compete on equal footing.
