Valve increased payments to map creators in CS2

Recently, skin creator KR1ZER shared information about the earnings that community map authors will receive after their maps were added to Counter-Strike 2 in yesterday's update. According to KR1ZER, maps for 5v5 modes should bring authors around $50,000, while 2v2 maps should earn them approximately $20,000.

YouTube channel creator Rikuda stated that the information provided by KR1ZER is outdated—those were the amounts map creators received from Valve in 2021. According to Rikuda, developers have increased the payment for using community maps by about 20% since then. Consequently, a 5v5 map author now earns $60,000, and a 2v2 map author earns $25,000.

These amounts are calculated based on the community maps being available for play in Counter-Strike 2 for five months. The payments are made to the authors daily rather than in a lump sum.

As a reminder, in yesterday's patch, the developers introduced several new maps to Counter-Strike 2. Thera and Mills were added to the "Competitive," "Casual," and "Deathmatch" modes; Memento and Assembly appeared in the "Wingman" mode; and Pool Day is now available in "Arms Race."
