OverDrive: "There is a high probability that the upcoming RMR will be our last!"
According to unofficial information, starting next year, the developers of Counter-Strike 2 will completely stop holding RMR qualifying tournaments for majors. This conclusion was reached by insider and scout Alexey "OverDrive" Biryukov, who wrote about it on social media platform X.
"There is a high probability that the upcoming RMR will be the last one!"
Later, Biryukov explained on his Telegram channel what Valve's plan might entail. According to him, the company may completely ban closed and partnered competitions from different tournament operators, discontinue open qualifications and RMR events, and turn majors into closed championships where teams are invited directly.
On May 31, the tournament operator Perfect World announced details about the upcoming Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024. Open qualifiers for RMR tournaments will only take place in Asia; in other regions, participants for closed qualifiers will be selected according to Valve's official ranking.
