NiKo: "I can still be one of the best players in the world"

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač, a member of G2, shared his thoughts on his current form and explained why he didn't take on the role of captain when the team made changes during the off-season. In an interview with HLTV, the Bosnian cyber athlete highlighted the progress in his performance.

"I noticed that everything started to click for me during the EPL in Malta, and since then, I’ve been playing better and better.

One of the reasons I didn’t take on the captaincy when we were making roster changes was because I believed in myself—I felt that I could still be one of the best players in the world, and I could see clear progress in my performance.

I’m glad I made that decision in the end, and I hope… well, maintaining this level is quite challenging, but as long as I see progress in myself, that’s what matters to me. But I hope people now understand why I didn’t take on the captaincy."

G2 secure a spot in the final stage of IEM Cologne 2024 in Counter-Strike 2. In the lower bracket final of Group A, Kovač’s team defeated paiN with a 2-0 scoreline. Before this, G2 had eliminated Astralis and Team Spirit from the tournament.
