Media reports: Saudi Prince Faisal suggested cancelling IESF WEC 2024
A report by James Fudge from The Esports Advocate (TEA) revealed details of a meeting on September 10th, during which IESF President and Saudi Prince Faisal proposed cancelling the upcoming World Esports Championship 2024.
According to TEA's sources, there was "general confusion" regarding this meeting, especially since IESF 2024 is scheduled to take place in less than two months in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The proposal came from Prince Faisal, who holds multiple roles: he is the IESF President, the founder of the Saudi Esports Federation, and the vice president of the Global Esports Federation.
In light of the confusion, IESF board members requested a blind vote on the matter due to "safety" concerns, which ultimately resulted in the proposal being rejected. Interestingly, Prince Faisal hinted that if the IESF were to cancel the event, he could persuade the Global Esports Federation to cancel their Global Esports Games in China that December.
As the proposal was voted down, the IESF WEC 2024 is set to proceed, hosting a 24-team LAN in Riyadh starting on November 11th. Both the United States and Canada will be represented, with the former Perseverance squad and Homyno attending for their respective countries.
