In an interview with HLTV, FlyQuest player Jay "Liazz" Tregillgas offered insights into the progress of the Australian team on the international stage. He credited captain Christopher "dexter" Nong, who joined the team late last year, for much of their improvement, attributing it to his implementation of a new gaming system.
"When dexter came on board and started implementing his system, it took some time because it caused discomfort. People were being pushed to do things that might have felt unnatural to them, but with each game, we gain more experience and adapt," Liazz remarked.
"We're now at a point in implementing the system where people aren't constantly overthinking what they're doing. They can just focus, aim, and perform well within the system, making everyone more comfortable. And with the amount of match time we're getting here at the Pro League, it's incredibly valuable."
Liazz highlighted that under dexter's guidance, the team has become more disciplined. "Honestly, I don't think our style differs much from Europe, but dexter has one particular trait – he's a hard-ass. If someone messes up a strategy, he'll call them out, and the next day that person comes to practice determined not to miss a single grenade. We used to be somewhat like a teenage club, but Chris brought in iron discipline. I think we needed that, and it's been great for us. He also relieved INS of captaincy duties, and now he's just damn good at the game, so that's awesome."
Currently, FlyQuest is based in Malta, participating in ESL Pro League Season 19. The Australian team has sensationally reached the round of 16, where they will face off against Liquid today.
