karrigan after the loss to G2: “We had a two-hour conversation as a team for the first time in two years”
FaZe's captain, Finn "karrigan" Andersen, commented on his team's defeat against G2 in the quarterfinals of IEM Dallas 2024. In an interview with the HLTV portal, the Danish esports athlete talked about how after being eliminated from the tournament, he and his teammates had an extensive discussion about what prevented them from winning and what could be improved in the team's game.
"First and foremost, I think G2 played exceptionally well; in a way, it was a perfect storm. I don't think we had any hidden issues; it's just that we didn't have time to sit down and discuss tough losses. When we lost some matches in other tournaments, it came down to minor details, but I think in the game against G2, we lacked both energy and passion.
When we've had periods of low energy, they've come in games where we haven't been eliminated from the tournament. When it matters, we can step up the pressure—that's what we're known for, and that's why we're hardest to beat.
We just had a two-hour team talk for the first time in two years, where we just sat and talked about our feelings. We don't have any grudges against each other, but we just talked about how each of us feels right now, whether we're feeling burned out, how we played, positions on some maps, everything we believe can be improved in the next season.
Sooner or later, we would have had to experience such a tough defeat to be able to continue working hard and progressing. In the end, it would have happened, and after that conversation, I thought it should happen here than in Cologne."
FaZe shared the 5th to 6th place with HEROIC at IEM Dallas 2024 and received a prize of $10,000. It's notable that before entering the playoffs, the team secured second place in their group, losing only to one opponent—Team Spirit.
