Virtus.pro captain Jame shared his thoughts on the team's performance at the Esports World Cup 2024 for CS2. In an interview for the club's YouTube channel, Jame discussed the team's preparation for the championship and their series against G2 Esports in the semi-finals of the event.
"The preparation for this championship was at an 8 [out of 10]. We had enough time to integrate a new coach. We're still in the process of finding a new structure—how everything should be arranged to make things easier for everyone. But this is a minor factor that could have influenced the result.
Vitality is a top-2 team. We can consistently beat at least one team from the top 5. The game against G2 didn’t go well. On the first [map], everything seemed under control, but then they broke us, and we couldn’t mount a comeback some issues need to be addressed."
Jame also commented on the fact that VP had not beaten G2 for a long time.
"Regarding the fact that we haven’t beaten them (G2) for a while. When we played against them, we weren’t at our peak performance. They are always a top-3 or top-4 team in the world, with some of the best players. Repeated defeats leave a mark on how we perceive them. Winning once would likely make it easier next time. But this applies not only to them but to any team. If you beat any team, it will be easier to play against them next time because you know you can do it.
I don’t feel anything particularly special against them [G2]. I just know they are the best players in the world—NiKo, m0NESY. We cannot afford to play our average if they play their best CS. We need to be at our peak. We must perform at our best and be stronger as a team than they are."
The Esports World Cup 2024 for CS2 took place from 17th to 21st July in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The teams competed for a prize pool of $1 million. Virtus.pro lost to G2 in the semi-finals, finishing in 3rd-4th place.
