Virtus.pro player Petr "fame" Bolyshov shared insights about the path into esports for aspiring players. In an interview with FISSURE studio, he explained how to train to join a top team.
"If you're a young player, you don't have a choice; shooting is the only way you can win and break into the pro scene. It's very tough to learn on your own. First, you showcase yourself, get into a team, and then an experienced coach trains you. Then you can shift focus from individual play: from FACEIT and Deathmatches to watching demos, and so on. I believe there should be a balance, but young players need different mechanics, and it can't work any other way."
Bolyshov added that when transitioning from casual to a higher level, young players should ditch matches with friends in favor of stronger opponents and teammates.
"Prioritize Deathmatches. Also, bunnyhopping, kz, all of these will help improve movement. You need to play a lot on FACEIT, but not solo, otherwise, you'll simply run out of nerves. There's another important aspect that's close to me: everyone starts by playing with friends, and there comes a time when you have to step forward and start choosing stronger opponents. When you realize it's time to level up your game, you need to separate personal relationships from your career. You have to start playing with different people, test yourself, and become better."
In the same interview, fame shared his thoughts on the changes made in the game when transitioning from CS:GO to CS2.
