Apeks leaves the CS2 pro scene due to financial difficulties

Norwegian multi-gaming organization Apeks has announced the suspension of its Counter-Strike division. Previously, the club had disbanded its roster but intended to form a new team.

According to the press release, Apeks management was forced to leave the CS2 pro scene due to financial difficulties. Additionally, the organization has closed its Fortnite division and laid off some staff members, redirecting all available resources to support the success of its Valorant team.

"In light of challenging economic conditions, we are taking decisive steps to secure the future of our company. As part of this strategy, we are focusing our current resources on the continued success of our Valorant division until the end of the season. This decision is necessary to ensure the longevity and sustainability of Apeks. It involves the temporary suspension of our Counter-Strike division and, unfortunately, the temporary layoffs of some of our staff. Regrettably, this decision also affects our Fortnite division as we exit that scene.

Despite our success, we have encountered difficulty creating a stable economic environment. Therefore, we will have to make several tough decisions this summer. Starting in June, most of our employees will be temporarily laid off. In the coming months, we will work to reinforce Apeks' commitment to esports and actively seek new capital."

Apeks has been part of the Counter-Strike pro scene since 2013. Since 2021, the team has regularly participated in tier-2 tournaments, reaching its peak with a sensational semifinal appearance at the last CS:GO Major – BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.

The official withdrawal of Apeks from CS2 likely means that Edne "sense" Fredriksen, Aleksandar "CacaNito" Kjulukoski, and coach Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg, who remained with the club and were listed for transfer, have now become free agents. Academy players may also have been released from their contracts.
